Olivia and Connor: Minneapolis Studio

Ahhh, the wonders of modern technology… I’m currently on a plane on my way home from a quick trip to Atlanta, GA, so figured, “what better way to pass the time then by posting a ridiculously passed due session?”

Olivia, Connor and their parents drove all the way from Menomonie, WI a few weeks back for a shoot at the studio I rent; isn’t that awesome!? Olivia and Connor’s mom is friends with Adia’s mom, so booked some time after seeing Adia’s recent modeling post! Even though Connor wasn’t completely up for photos that day, (partly my fault since I think I allowed for just a little too much fun before getting down to the photo nitty gritty) we still managed to get some fabulous shots in of brother, sister and the whole fam… and I even snuck a few in of Mom and Dad! :)

Bryn and Joel were married last weekend in a private ceremony and intimate reception at the über posh W Hotel in Minneapolis, MN. Here’s a quicky from our pre-ceremony shoot – I’m working hard to post the rest in the next few days!!!

Little Henry and Baby Amelia met me in Minneapolis for a family session a few weeks ago… I recently found a studio to rent on a temporary basis when I need an indoor location (perfect for Midwestern winters!) It’s such a great space; just an old building with exposed brick, iron staircases and vintage hardwood floors. Pretty sure Henry loved it as much as I do, because he spent much of the session exploring and playing with his favorite green truck, which gave me time to snap some shots of sleepy Amelia! I just love when things work out like that… :)

I had really hoped to post a few more shots from my recent session with Henry and Amelia, but things just got too busy around her and now I’m off to NYC for a few days so you’ll have to wait a bit longer. This little girl has had my heart from the day she was born – for one, she’s ridiculously cute (as seen below), but Adia’s also über creative, super sweet, and has an imagination like no other! No joke, she could fill your ear for a good hour about stories of all your neighbors that she’s never even met and the unicorns that love them… So, when Adia recently became represented by a local modeling agency and needed some head-shots taken, I jumped at the chance! We had such a blast at my new found studio in Minneapolis, I just may have taken toooo many photos for her mom to choose from… Adia is definitely destined for showbiz, and I can’t wait to see where it takes her!

I’ve been MIA recently, haven’t I?!?!? I can only blame it on a big, HUGE, case of the winter blahs, but this little one has definitely cured me! Meet Adia. She’s one of the most creative, imaginative, fantastical little girls I’ve ever met! I snapped a ridiculous amount of photos of Adia this past weekend, so it may take me a bit to narrow down and edit a full post, but I wanted to post a quick peek (mostly because I know her mom and grandma are dying to see how they turned out!) More to come in the next few days – I PROMISE!

Have you heard of Etsy? No?! Oooohhh…. it’s awesome! Etsy is a website that’s : “Your place to buy and sell all things handmade” and I drool over everything they have to offer. It’s a site where all the goods are made and sold by individuals with a common bond to create things like jewelry, clothing, stationary, accessories, art, fun vintage goods, etc. and now you can even find some fancy photos by yours truly!

I’ve officially opened up my shop, and plan to add even more prints within the next couple weeks to keep things fresh, so be sure to check back often. :) I’m really excited about the Fine Art side of Amber Engfer Photography, as it’s long been my passion to make art with a camera and photographing objects, landscapes, and antique architecture is my favorite way to gather inspiration for my portrait and event sessions. (it’s amazing the things you can learn while staring at a dried up flower through a lens at sunset!)

Oh, hey! Welcome back! I have some really fun things in the works for 2010, am shooting a crazy-awesome posh hotel wedding in March that I’m SO excited for, and have been acquiring a few photo props that I can’t wait to blog about, so stay tuned!!

Since no post is complete without an image or two, I thought I’d include a few food photos from the fun tea party/baby shower I attended over the weekend. My friend Lisa is due next month and is starting a tea cup collection for her little girl-on-the-way, so our super fab shower hosts Van and Lauren asked everyone to bring a teacup to help out! Cute, right? Do these girls know how to throw a party or what?!?! :)

Baby Austin: 4 months

Oh that Austin – he’s going to be a lady killer, that’s for sure! Within minutes of arriving at his house, Austin gave me a huge happy baby smile and I just knew I was in for it… How could you resist that face??! And, fortunately, even after Austin got sick of the big black box on my face, mom and dad had a few pretty cool tricks up their sleeves to keep him smiling!! We had an unseasonably warm Autumn day for Austin’s session, which worked out perfectly as we were able to step outside for a few family and tummy time shots. Mind you, Austin’s not really a tummy time kind of guy…. he’s more of a lounger, but throw a few colorful fallen leaves in front of him and wham – happy as a clam! I just love when things work out that way… especially when the photos turn out to be so dang cute!

okay… I know this one isn’t totally in focus, but I just loved his expression sooo much, I HAD to post it!

OOoooooh, this may just be one of my favorite photos ever! This is little Austin – did you see his adorable hoodie? His great grammy made it for him and I’m seriously considering asking she make one for me as well…. :) There’s just something about wee one’s in hats and hoods… gets me every time!!

I’m super excited and happy to announce I’ll be a part of Finch’s Boutique again this year! For those of you that aren’t privy to the details – Finch’s Boutique is an art and craft sale put on by fun and local peeps that takes place only once a year, just shy of Christmas (for all your holiday shopping needs!). This year, over 30 artists and designers will have items for sale ranging from jewelry to kids stuff to clothing, stationary and of course, photography!! (that’s me, in case you were wondering) :)

Baby Nora: 2 Months

Here she is! Perfect, sweet, adorable baby Nora. I love her eyes – innocent, clear and full of wonder, you can’t help but know this little one is destined for greatness. Nora’s family asked me over to take some photos from the comfort of their Minneapolis home (which I love, by the way, it’s so much more intimate than a studio session could ever be). We were hoping for a few outdoor shots as well as indoor, but the weather didn’t cooperate as soggy grass and super bright sun do not make for a happy baby. No matter though – Nora’s parents have super fabulous taste, so I had more than enough to work with within their living room alone! (I truly may try to figure out a way to get my hands on their teal chair you see below, I was in heaven the moment I saw it!! do you think they’d mind if I just stopped by one day and snuck it out the window?!?) :)

Sweet baby Nora’s mommy is a ballerina – would you have guessed? I love this photo, partly because I fell in love with the chair Nora’s sitting in and love the contrast in color against her ridiculously cute little outfit, but mostly because of the bubbles!!!! Baby bubbles are the cuteness that come just before the drool….. Though I’m not much a fan for the drool bombs, I do love the bubbles. :)

Robbie: Senior 2010

Okay, so I haven’t figured out the whole BFF thing, but I did finish editing Robbie’s photos!! Robbie, his mom, dad and dogs met me at Minneahaha Falls Park in Minneapolis a few weeks ago. Though the morning was beautiful and sunny, our session was scheduled in the evening where things got a little hairy with a drop in temperature and threats of rain….. fortunately the weather held out and we were still able to score some great shots!! Robbie was great to work with, but said I needed to work on an act to keep people laughing through their sessions…. apparently I’m not as funny to high school boys as I once was… :) All in all, I’m pretty sure Robbie still had fun, even with my lame, old lady jokes.

Ryan: Senior 2010

J. Crew photo shoot or High School Senior session? Well, if you read the post below, you know Ryan’s going to be a senior this year, but he totally rocked this session so much, it may as well have been a magazine shoot! Ryan is my cousin… isn’t he cute? We totally look alike, don’t we? Actually, Ryan looks exactly like his dad in quite a few of the shots I took, and Ryan’s MOM is my mother’s sister, so if you’re following me on this one, Ryan and I don’t look anything alike. Maybe our teeth a little… and I’ve never seen his toes. My mothers family all have the same toes, so it’s possible our toes match….

Ryan, his mom, and my super fun other cousin Kayd, met me at Minnehaha Falls Park one evening a few weeks ago so we could tool around the park for some great shot variety and fantastic evening light. The weather was perfect and Ryan was a good sport, despite all the embarrassing and annoying things us ladies asked him to do. I think it’s even possible he may have enjoyed himself a little , judging by all the smiles! Either that, or I’m just really hilarious… I’m hoping for a little of both. :)

While I’m on a posting spree, here’s just a quick peak at my most recent session with Ryan, a hockey and soccer extraordinaire and soon-to-be senior at Academy of Holy Angels. We had to wait for multiple bunches of runners to pass by to snap this shot….Ryan was definitely a good sport! :)

The gals at 2709 continue to get some awesome press on their recent line of bicycle friendly clothing, which means my photos from our fashion shoot a few months ago get more exposure too! It’s a win-win situation that makes me jump for joy every time I think about it. Giddy, I tell you!!! Metro Magazine, based in the Twin Cities, did a story on 2709 Designs and used my photo as the main photo on their homepage ‘Daily Filter’ as well as some others within the story itself – Awesome, right!?

I’m so happy for Bonnie and Becca and their continued success. They’ve developed some amazing stuff – if you haven’t seen it, take Metro Mag’s advice and head on over to Design Collective to check it out! Oh, and click the picture below for a direct link to the story itself… :)
